What Boomerang Does, and What It Costs
Boomerang is a Gmail add-on (with separate Outlook, iOS and Android versions) that bundles several jobs:
- Send Later and Boomerang reminders: schedule a message, or bring a thread back to your inbox if nobody replies.
- Inbox Pause: hold new mail out of your inbox, either until you unpause or on a schedule. Its help centre describes a Batched Delivery schedule, work hours and focus time, delivery exceptions for chosen senders, domains or words like "urgent", and an optional auto-reply while paused.
- Respondable: an AI assistant that scores the email you are writing and suggests changes.
- Read receipts, recurring messages and meeting scheduling.
Pricing as of 1 October 2026 (boomeranggmail.com/subscriptions): Basic is free with 10 message credits a month. Personal is $4.98 a month, Pro $14.98 and Premium $49.98, all shown billed annually. Inbox Pause and Respondable are not on the free plan. Recurring messages need Pro or Premium.
Most people leaving Boomerang want to replace one of two things: the batching or the follow-ups. They are different problems, so they get different answers.
Alternatives to Boomerang Inbox Pause (Inbox Batching)
If what you liked about Boomerang was checking email two or three times a day instead of all day, these are the tools that do that job.
Mailman

Mailman is the closest match to Inbox Pause. It holds Gmail messages and releases them in delivery slots: every few hours, a set number of times a day, or at specific times. It adds a do-not-disturb window and a VIP list of senders, domains or keywords that skip the hold. Because it works at the Gmail account level, the schedule also applies in other mail apps that read your Gmail, such as Apple Mail or Spark.
BatchedInbox
Price as of 1 October 2026: $9.99 a month, 14-day free trial. Source: batchedinbox.com.
BatchedInbox does one thing: Gmail arrives only at the times you choose, with a way to fetch mail on demand if you need it sooner. It is simpler than Mailman and does not bundle anything else.
Missive
Price as of 1 October 2026: Productive plan $24 per user a month billed yearly, with a 30-day trial. Rules are not on the $14 Starter plan. Source: missiveapp.com/pricing.
Missive is a full shared-inbox email client, not an add-on. Its rules can hold incoming messages until set delivery times, with exceptions for priority senders or keywords. It is more than you need if you only want batching, but a good fit if your team shares inboxes anyway.
What Gmail can do on its own
Gmail has no built-in batched delivery. You can get part of the way without paying for anything:
- Notifications: set Gmail on your phone to notify for high priority mail only, and turn desktop notifications off. Mail still arrives, but it stops interrupting you.
- Filters: a filter can skip the inbox and apply a label for newsletters and notifications, so the inbox only fills with mail from people.
- Snooze: snooze individual threads until the time you want to deal with them.
- Vacation responder: if you want the auto-reply part of Inbox Pause, Gmail's vacation responder can tell people when you will next check email.
If those are enough, you may not need a paid tool at all.
Alternatives to Boomerang Reminders (Follow-Ups)
This is the other half. Boomerang's reminder brings a thread back when nobody replies, and then you write the next message. These tools take that further in different ways.

Mixmax

Mixmax runs inside Gmail and Outlook and adds sequences, templates, tracking and meeting booking. Its AI Sequence Builder (on Engagement Copilot and above) helps draft sequences, and its rules can post alerts to Slack. It suits sales reps sending a lot of personal email. Price: three live reminders free with no card and no expiry. Starter $4 a month for ten.
autoremind.ai does one thing: follow-ups to people who have not replied. You write one sentence, for example "Chase Marcus about the March invoice, $4,200, due two weeks ago." It writes the messages, sends them from your own Gmail in the original thread, and makes each one firmer than the last: professional, then firm, then urgent. Each reminder sends at most four messages. When Marcus replies, it stops.
It notices the reply without reading your inbox. Each follow-up puts a tracked address in the reply path, and a reply to it ends the sequence. Slack is supported for chasing teammates.
