The Short Answer
Boomerang is an email add-on for scheduling, reminders and controlling when mail reaches your inbox. autoremind.ai does one job: it writes follow-ups, sends them from your Gmail and stops when the person replies. If the hard part for you is writing the third chase on an unpaid invoice, autoremind.ai is the better fit. If you want send-later, read receipts or Inbox Pause, Boomerang is, and autoremind.ai does not replace those at all.
What Boomerang Does
As of 1 October 2026, Boomerang for Gmail lists Send Later, reminders that bring a thread back if nobody replies, Inbox Pause, Respondable (an AI assistant that scores the email you are writing), read receipts, recurring email and meeting scheduling. There are separate versions for Outlook, iOS and Android.
Pricing from boomeranggmail.com/subscriptions: Basic is free with 10 message credits a month; Personal $4.98, Pro $14.98 and Premium $49.98 a month, all shown billed annually. Inbox Pause and Respondable need a paid plan, and recurring messages need Pro or Premium. New accounts get a 30-day trial of the Professional plan.
Where it stops for follow-ups: when the reminder fires, the thread comes back to your inbox and you write the next message. Respondable can grade your draft, but the draft is still yours, and so is the decision about how firm the third one should be.
What autoremind.ai Does
You describe the chase in one sentence, for example "Follow up with Obaid on invoice #1042, it's 7 days overdue." autoremind.ai then:
- writes the follow-ups for you, each one firmer than the last (professional, then firm, then urgent)
- sends them from your own Gmail, in the original thread, so the client sees the full history
- stops when the person replies, at most four messages per reminder
- lets you edit, pause or cancel any reminder from the dashboard
It notices the reply without reading your inbox: each follow-up puts a tracked address in the reply path, and a reply to it ends the sequence. Slack is supported for chasing teammates. Outlook is not supported yet.

If You Want Inbox Pause or Batching
A lot of people searching for a Boomerang alternative want the opposite end of email: fewer incoming interruptions, not better outgoing follow-ups. autoremind.ai does nothing for that. Tools that do, as of 1 October 2026:
- Mailman: delivers Gmail in slots you choose, with a VIP list that skips the hold. $8 a month billed yearly, $10 monthly.
- BatchedInbox: Gmail arrives only at the times you set. $9.99 a month.
- Missive: a shared-inbox email client whose rules can hold mail until set times, on its Productive plan.
Gmail itself has no batched delivery, but high-priority-only notifications, filters that skip the inbox and snooze cover a lot of it for free. The full breakdown is in Boomerang alternatives for inbox batching and follow-ups.
Who Should Use Which Tool
Boomerang makes sense if:
- you want send-later, reminders, read receipts and Inbox Pause in one add-on
- you use Outlook or want mobile apps
- you are happy to write your own follow-ups
autoremind.ai makes sense if:
- you chase invoices, approvals or quiet prospects every week and keep putting it off
- you want the follow-up written, sent and escalated without you touching it again
- you use Gmail, and sometimes need to chase a teammate in Slack
You can also run both: Boomerang for your inbox, autoremind.ai for the chases. If unpaid invoices are the issue, the guide to following up on an unpaid invoice has the sequence to run.
